Last weekend Ralph Schneider presented the community, OpenBouy and his project FloatingHorizon.org at one of the largest plastics fairs in the world. He spoke about Marine Litter and potential solutions by prevention and the potential role of robotics supporting the reduction of Marine Litter. Conclusion in a nutshell: Cleaning the ocean is a dream which is a vision with large potential risks and uncertainties (It is a dream and might stay a dream, perhaps it is even good that way). But using robots can lower the cost of ocean actions significantly and in particular taking samples can be done with robotic vessels much more efficient and potentially environmental friendlier.
