Project Floating Horizon
Simple & Efficient Robot-Trawler to collect solid particles to analyze e.g. Marine Litter
General: Floating Horizon is an initiative with the aim to develop a robotic skimmer to filter solid particles like marine-litter out of open water areas to monitor amount and composition.
Why: Parts of humans consumer waste ends up in the ocean which creates various problems to marine life, shipping and tourism. Today the recovery of particles out of the ocean is difficult, risky and cost intense. But more data would be very welcome to have deeper insight into composition and surface particle dissipation which is needed to monitor the amounts and sources of e.g. litter drifting in the seas. Status: Floating Horizon is doing a step by step research to find solutions which will fulfill the high demands. The project is in its on-boarding and business concept phase. Next Open Task: Technology package evaluation. The project was presented at the Waste Free Oceans Conference and during the plastics fair in Düsseldorf 2013. |
